Featured Speaker: Dr. Leroy V. Quintana

Biography

Leroy V. Quintana, author of six books of poetry and twice winner of an American Book Award from the Before Columbus Foundation, is represented in numerous anthologies.  His work includes the poetry collection The Great Whirl of Exile, Curbstone Press, and La Promesa (The Promise) a book of fiction published by the University of Oklahoma. His work draws from his experiences with the Chicano culture of New Mexico (where he was born in Albuquerque), from his military experiences from a year in Vietnam (where he served 1967-68 with the 101st Airborne Division), and from his work as a counselor, first with alcoholism and later as a licensed Marriage, Family, and Child Counselor (MFCC).  He is Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Oklahoma, and currently is Professor of English at San Diego Mesa College. His work is known for its story-telling filled with surprises that force reader questioning.
