CATE Awards: Nominees

Nomination Form (click here) due by November 8

The California Association of Teachers of English (CATE) invites you to nominate outstanding teachers and community members for the following awards. At its next meeting, the Greater San Diego Council of Teachers of English will select one nominee per award from among those nominated, and convey their names to the CATE Board. At that time additional information will be requested about each nominee. These awards are given by the CATE President at the CATE Convention in Los Angeles, February 12-14, 2010. Winners will have their names published in the convention program and will be invited to attend the Convention for public recognition.

THE CATE CLASSROOM EXCELLENCE AWARD honors teachers who have demonstrated, on a continuing basis, outstanding expertise in teaching English/language arts. This year's awardee from Greater San Diego must be from the middle school level.

THE CATE AWARD OF MERIT recognizes outstanding contributions of persons and organizations toward the improvement of teaching English/language arts in California. The nominee shall have performed meritorious service within the past year for English/language arts programs either on a statewide basis or in a local region, be a resident of California, and shall not be a member of the English teaching profession in California at the time of the service. The meritorious service shall be outside the scope of the regular professional duties of the candidate, or, if within the duties (news editor, writer, etc.) the service should be of extraordinary value to the teaching of the English/language arts.
